A unique Bal Mela for ‘Deaf & Dumb children was jointly organized by Surat Municipal Corporation, Child Friendly Surat Smart City, UHCRCE and Deaf and Dumb Development Trust, Surat on 30th September, 2022. Department of Food and Nutrition, School of Science and Technology, Vanita Vishram Women’s university, actively participated with the support of our management, encouragement from our Provost Dr. Daxesh Thakar , guidance of Dr. Manisha Vyas- Dean of SST (HOD of Department of Food & Nutrition) and tireless efforts of the faculty members of the department. 1st Semester students of M.Sc.in Nutrition and Dietetics showed their creativity and enthusiasm for the event.
The message of including healthy choices of food in the diet was explained through models on food and activity pyramid. Play way method was used as a ‘Nutri Ring and Win Game’. Incentices were given in the form of “gudd Chikki” inculcating healthy practices in the prizes too.
The volunteer students understood the challenge faced to pass the message to Deaf and Dumb students. A great learning day for both the beneficiaries and our volunteers too.
