



A seminar on awareness of NRI marriages was held on 9/9/25, jointly organized by the Women’s Development Cell, VVWU, the Gujarat Non-Resident Gujaratis Foundation (NRGF), and the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI).
The event was graced by several distinguished guests, including Shri. Vijay Mewawala, Immediate Past President of SGCCI; Shri Bijal Jariwala, Hon. Secretary; Shri Paresh Lathia, Group Chairman; Shri Kalpesh Lathia, Chairman of NRGF; Mr. Chetan Seth, Co-Chairman; Mr. Chintan Prajapati,
System Manager (Gandhinagar Branch); and Mr. Sunil Solanki, Deputy Accountant, along with executive members of the respective organizations.
Hon’ble Provost Dr. Daxesh Thakar addressed the gathering, emphasizing that while there is a prevailing aspiration in Indian society to marry daughters abroad, there is a lack of awareness regarding the potential risks and legal aspects involved. He highlighted the importance of such
seminars in spreading awareness.
The chief guest and keynote speaker, Adv. Preeti Joshi from the Supreme Court of India, delivered an insightful presentation to over 300 students from various departments. She elaborated on the legal formalities and documentation required in Indian marriages, explained the concept of
unconstitutional marriages, and discussed marriage-related crimes and precautionary steps before marrying abroad—all in clear and accessible language.
On this occasion, several esteemed members of the university also expressed their appreciation for the
initiative, including Shri Kriplani T. Desai, President of the Board of Management VVWU and Chairman of Vanita Vishram, Surat; Mr. Praveen T. Vora, Vice President of the Board of Management Vanita VVWU and Vice Chairman of Vanita Vishram; Mr. Manhar C. Desai, Secretary of Vanita Vishram; and Dr. R. D. Patel, Registrar.
The seminar was organized under the leadership of Provost Dr. Daxesh Thakar, with the efforts of Dr. Vinita Mod, HoD-Dept. of Hospitality & Tourism Management, Dean of the Faculty of Vocational Studies, and Chair of the WDC, along with co-chair Ms. Shagun Rao and the support of the members of WDC.
