The Department of Computer Science, School of Science and Technology, Vanita Vishram Women’s University organized a study tour to the Surat Urban Observatory & Emergency Response Center (SUOERC), Surat Municipal Corporation(SMC) on 16th December, 2025 (Tuesday).
The objective of the study tour was to provide students with practical exposure to smart city infrastructure, real-time monitoring systems, and technology-driven urban governance.
During the visit, students gained valuable insights into the functioning of SUOERC, which monitors over 3,500 CCTV cameras to detect and manage issues such as potholes, waterlogging, and traffic congestion in real time. The center also serves as a central control room for handling emergencies, including floods, fire incidents, and other disaster situations.
Around 300+ students from across the department benefited from the study tour.
The study tour was organized under the guidance of the Honourable Provost, Dr. Daxesh Thakar, with the cooperation of Dr. Nirali Dave, Dean, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology.
The visit was well coordinated by Ms. Mitali Aaiwala and Ms. Meera Patel, Teaching Assistants, and was attended by all faculty members of the department, ensuring comprehensive academic engagement throughout the visit.
