Glimpses of Riwayat 3.0

The Dept of Fashion Designing, School of Vocational Studies successfully organized “Riwayat 3.0 – 2026,” its Annual Fashion Show. The event witnessed the presence of approximately 600 attendees. The garments were evaluated by Prof. (Dr.) Madhu Sharan, Head, Department of Clothing and Textiles, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda; Dr. Arpita Purohit, Head, School of Design, Auro University; and Ms. Megha Jatake, Senior Manager, Chiripal Group of Industries. The programme was inaugurated and graced by the Chief Guests, Mrs. Teena Ranka and Mrs. Maharukh Karanjiya.

Considering that the textile industry is the second largest polluting industry, the fashion show was conceptualized around the theme “Sustainability.” Students of SY and TY B. Voc. (Fashion Design), with assistance from FY students, worked from the baseline through systematic research, design thinking, raw material surveys, trend analysis, and consumer studies. A total of 12 sequences were presented on the ramp, each reflecting a distinct sustainable concept.

The collections showcased high-fashion garments developed from various textile waste materials including waste leather, muslin waste, fabric scraps, denim remnants, lace waste, industrial yarn waste, and Persian carpet waste. Techniques such as surface development, biomimicry-inspired textures, macramé, patch and cut work, traditional Indian embroideries, quilting, smocking, and knotting were creatively explored. One sequence highlighted utility fashion, featuring handbags developed entirely from waste fabric scraps. Prior to the show, professional training was imparted to the models to enhance presentation and performance. The craftsmanship and systematic use of textile waste were highly appreciated.

Awards for Best Theme were presented to the collections titled Rutuvastra, Sutra, and Adhyasa.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and was successfully conducted through the collective efforts of Dr. Megha Gohil HOD, Ms. Shagun Rao Asst Professor, Dr. Sumi Haldar Asst Professor, and Teaching Assts Ms. Priya Ranoliya, Ms. Shubhi Sharma, and Ms. Ankita Purohit, under the able guidance and support of Provost Dr. Daxesh Thakar, Registrar Dr. R. D. Patel, Dean Dr. Vinita Mod, Faculty of Vocational Studies, Secretary Shri M. C. Desai, and the Vanita Vishram Management.
