“Women are the largest untapped reservoir of talent in the world.”
– Hillary Clinton
It gives me immense pleasure to state that I am associated with Vanita Vishram Women’s University, which is the first-ever Women’s University of Gujarat. Undoubtedly, the University shall emerge as a strong foundation block for the empowerment of women not only in the city of Surat but also in the entire state of Gujarat. It adds to the outstanding history of its mother institution Vanita Vishram, which was founded in 1907 by two women leaders Smt. Shivgauriben Gajjar and Smt. Bajigauri Munshi. Nonetheless, Vanita Vishram has successfully completed 115 years of its subsistence and that too with glorious history. It has been imparting quality education to more than 14,000 girl students in its sprawling campus as well as skill-based training in order to make the girl students industry-ready. The establishment of Vanita Vishram Women’s University has added new wings to the goals and objectives of Vanita Vishram as an institution and I am confident that the University shall scale newer heights of excellence in near future.
We, at the University, firmly believe that a good career for an independent woman is important but a good character is paramount. We believe that ‘individuals’ are the fragments that hold incredible power within to serve as agents of change and thus are confident that our students, developed with a sense of good ethics and social responsibility, will be the makers of a virtuous society.
Having said this, I congratulate all the members of the Managing Council, Vanita Vishram, Mumbai, the Surat Administrative Committee of Vanita Vishram, the office-bearers and the staff of Vanita Vishram Women’s University and most importantly the students, for their painstaking efforts directed towards the growth and development of Vanita Vishram as an institution.
At this juncture, I wish all the best to the first batch of Vanita Vishram Women’s University and pray to the Almighty for the successful journey of VVWU. May Vanita Vishram and VVWU progress in leaps and bounds!
With Best Wishes
