Important Instructions for the Post of Assistant Professor
- Qualifications as per UGC norms & Salary as per Vanita Vishram & University norms.
- Candidates should possess an excellent academic record with consistent performance, a strong and demonstrated research profile evidenced through quality publications, projects, and academic contributions, along with effective communication and interpersonal skills. Additionally, preference shall be given to female candidates
- Eligibility of a candidate and satisfaction of any other Short-listing criteria shall be considered as on the last date of the receipt for application.
- A candidate should apply only for the discipline of his/her interest. If he/she wishes to apply for more than one discipline or post, a separate application must be submitted for each discipline and post.
- It is mandatory to mention the area of Specialization to avoid any ambiguity and further disqualification.
- The University shall verify the antecedents or documents submitted by a candidate at any time at the time of interview/appointment or during the tenure of the service. In case, it is detected that the documents submitted by the candidates are fake or the candidate has a clandestine antecedents/background and has suppressed the said information, then his services shall be terminated.
- The University reserves the right not to fill up any of the vacancies advertised if the circumstances so warrant. Any consequential vacancies arising at the time of interview may also be filled up from the available candidates. The number of positions is thus open to change.
- In case of any inadvertent mistake in the process of selection, which may be detected at any stage even after the issue of appointment letter, the University reserves the right to modify/withdraw/ cancel any communication made to the candidates.
- In case of any dispute/ambiguity that may occur in the process of selection, the decision of the University/Management shall be final.
- Applicants who are presently employed must submit their applications through the proper channel and attach a copy of the No Objection Certificate (NOC) / endorsement by the employer, as specified in the application form.
- Candidates should send self-attested copies of certificates and mark-sheets from matriculation onwards in support of their qualifications. Originals should not be sent along with the application but these must be produced at the time of interview.
- Candidates are advised to satisfy themselves before applying that they possess at least the minimum essential qualifications laid down in the advertisement.
- No correspondence will be entertained from candidates regarding postal delays, conduct and result of interview and reasons for not being called for interview.
Selection Process:
- The candidates for selection to the posts will be selected by Selection Committee through personal interview.
- University may conduct competitive written test for the selection of the above said posts.
- The Selection Committee may decide its own method of evaluating the performance of the candidates in interview.
- University reserves the right to reject any application.
- The University will have the right to relax any of the conditions such as experience, age, etc., in deserving cases of all posts.
- If any candidate is recommended for appointment in relaxation of any of the prescribed conditions relating to age, experience etc, it shall be so stated and recorded.
- When the Selection Committee considers it fit to recommend a higher initial pay or advance increments to be offered to a selected candidate, it may do so giving reasons there-for.
- Number of posts advertised may be treated as tentative. The University shall have the right to increase/decrease the number of posts at the time of selection and make appointments accordingly. Separate application for each post is required.
- The prescribed qualifications and experience will be minimum and the mere fact that a candidate possessing the same will not entitle her/him for being called for interview. The University will have the right to restrict the candidates to be called for interview to a reasonable number on the basis of qualifications and experience higher than the minimum prescribed or by any other condition that may deem fit.
- Mere eligibility will not entitle any candidate for being called for interview. More stringent criteria may be applied for short-listing the candidates to be called for interview. Applicants having higher qualification and merit will be given preference.
- University may call any suitable person(s) to appear in the Interview who may not have applied in response to the University’s Notification.
- The Selection Committee, after considering the candidate for the post applied for may, if it is of the opinion that he or she will be suitable choice for the next lower post, make such recommendations.
- The Chairman Selection Committee shall have the power to lay-down the procedure in respect of any matter not mentioned ABOVE.
General Conditions:
- In cases of any disputes any suites or legal proceedings against the University, the jurisdiction shall be restricted to the Courts in Surat/Gujarat.
- No TA/DA shall be paid to the candidates for attending the interview.

- The duly-signed hard copy of the Application Form with self-attested documents should reach the University Office within 14/05/2026, 04:00 pm either through registered post/speed post/courier/hand to hand in a sealed envelope.
- The University will not be responsible for postal delay in delivering the application forms to the candidates. (i) Application after the last date, (ii) incomplete in any respect and (iii) any fresh paper /enclosures after closing date, shall not be considered.

Qualifications
Recruitment and Qualifications
- The direct recruitment to the posts of Assistant Professor Universities, shall be on the basis of merit through an all-India advertisement, followed by selection by a duly-constituted Selection Committee as per the provisions made under these Regulations. These provisions shall be incorporated in the Statutes/Ordinances of the university.
- The minimum qualifications required for the post of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor, shall be as specified by the UGC.
- The National Eligibility Test (NET) or an accredited test (State Level Eligibility Test SLET/SET) shall remain the minimum eligibility for appointment of Assistant Professor and equivalent positions wherever provided in these Regulations. Further, SLET/SET shall be valid as the minimum eligibility for direct recruitment to university.
Provided that candidates who have been awarded a Ph.D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulation, 2009, or the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil/Ph.D. Degree) Regulation, 2016, and their subsequent amendments from time to time, as the case may be, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SLET/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or any equivalent position in any University, College or Institution.
Provided further that the award of degree to candidates registered for the M.Phil/Ph.D.programme prior to July 11, 2009, shall be governed by the provisions of the then existing Ordinances / Bye-laws / Regulations of the Institutions awarding the degree. All such Ph.D. candidates shall be exempted from the requirement of NET/SLET/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in Universities/Colleges/Institution subject to the fulfillment of the following conditions:
- The Ph.D. degree of the candidate has been awarded in regular mode only;
- The Ph.D. thesis has been awarded by at least two external examiners;
- An open Ph.D. viva voce of the candidate has been conducted;
- The candidate has published two research papers from his/her Ph.D. work out of which at least one is in a refereed journal;
- The candidate has presented at least two papers, based on his/her Ph.D. work in conferences/seminars sponsored/funded/supported by the UGC/ ICSSR/CSIR or any similar agency.
The fulfilment of these conditions is to be certified by the Registrar or the Dean (Academic Affairs) of the University concerned.
- The clearing of NET/SLET/SET shall not be required for candidates in such disciplines for which ET/SLET/SET has not been conducted.
- A minimum of 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale, wherever the grading system is followed) at the Master‘s level shall be the essential qualification for direct recruitment of teachers and other equivalent cadres at any level.
- A relaxation of 5% shall be allowed at the Bachelor’s as well as at the Master‘s level for the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Other Backward Classes (OBC)(Non-creamy Layer)/Differently- abled ((a) Blindness and low vision; (b) Deaf and Hard of Hearing; (c) Locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid-attack victims and muscular dystrophy; (d) Autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability and mental illness; (e) Multiple disabilities from amongst persons under (a) to (d) including deaf-blindness) for the purpose of eligibility and assessing good academic record for direct recruitment. The eligibility marks of 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever the grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible, based only on the qualifying marks without including any grace mark procedure.
- A relaxation of 5% shall be provided, (from 55% to 50% of the marks) to the Ph.D. Degree holders who have obtained their Master‘s Degree prior to19 September, 1991.
- A relevant grade which is regarded as equivalent of 55%, wherever the grading system is followed by a recognized university, at the Master‘s level shall also be considered valid.
- The Ph.D. Degree shall be a mandatory qualification for appointment and promotion to the post of Professor.
- The Ph.D. Degree shall be a mandatory qualification for appointment and promotion to the post of Associate Professor.
- The Ph.D. Degree shall be a mandatory qualification for promotion to the post of Assistant Professor (Selection Grade/Academic Level 12) in universities.
- The time taken by candidates to acquire M.Phil. and / or Ph.D. Degree shall not be considered as teaching/ research experience to be claimed for appointment to the teaching positions. Further the period of active service spent on pursuing Research Degree simultaneously with teaching assignment without taking any kind of leave, shall be counted as teaching experience for the purpose of direct recruitment/ promotion. Regular faculty members upto twenty per cent of the total faculty strength (excluding faculty on medical / maternity leave) shall be allowed by their respective institutions to take study leave for pursuing Ph.D. degree.
For the Disciplines of Arts, Commerce, Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, Languages.
- Assistant Professor: Eligibility (A or B) :
A.
- i) A Master‘s degree with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale wherever the grading system is followed) in a concerned/relevant/allied subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
- ii) Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC or the CSIR, or a similar test accredited by the UGC, like SLET/SET or who are or have been awarded a Ph. D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016 and their amendments from time to time as the case may be exempted from NET/SLET/SET :
Provided, the candidates registered for the Ph.D. programme prior to July 11, 2009, shall be governed by the provisions of the then existing Ordinances/Bye-laws/Regulations of the Institution awarding the degree and such Ph.D. candidates shall be exempted from the requirement of NET/SLET/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in Universities/Colleges/Institutions subject to the fulfillment of the following conditions: –
- The Ph.D. degree of the candidate has been awarded in a regular mode;
- The Ph.D. thesis has been evaluated by at least two external examiners;
- An open Ph.D. viva voce of the candidate has been conducted;
- The Candidate has published two research papers from his/her Ph.D. work, out of which at least one is in a refereed journal;

Note: NET/SLET/SET shall also not be required for such Masters Programmes in disciplines for which
NET/SLET/SET is not conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar test accredited by the UGC, like SLET/SET.

- The Ph.D degree has been obtained from a foreign university/institution with a ranking among top 500 in the World University Ranking (at any time) by any one of the following: (i) Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) (ii) the Times Higher Education (THE) or (iii) the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Shanghai).
Note: The Academic score as specified in (Table 3) for universities, shall be considered for short-listing of the candidates for interview only, and the selections shall be based only on the performance in the interview.
